Macon, Georgia Probate Lawyer

Wills and Powers of Attorney • Guardianship • Litigation • Elder Law

The law office of Margrett A. Skinner can protect your legal interests in all probate court matters. Whether you need basic estate planning or nursing home planning, or need smart representation in a pressing legal matter, I bring 21 years of experience to your situation.

These matters require familiarity with the probate laws of Georgia, and a lawyer who understands how the local probate courts operate. Based in Macon, I serve clients in Macon and surrounding counties of Middle Georgia. I am a solo attorney who will personally handle your case from initial contact to resolution. Call (478) 742-7400 for a free initial phone consultation.

Wills and Power of Attorney

Without a valid will, Georgia law will dictate who inherits your property. For example, if you pass on with a surviving spouse and children, your spouse would receive no less than one-third of the estate and your children would receive the rest. I can help you draft a will that clearly outlines your wishes regarding distribution of your estate and other concerns.

I can also draft a durable power of attorney, which empowers a family member or friend to handle your finances if you become incapacitated, and a health care power of attorney to guide your spouse or loved ones regarding medical decisions. I address all the details, such as making sure that your house is deeded correctly regarding right of survivorship.

Guardianship

If your elderly parent becomes ill or mentally incompetent, a guardianship allows you make decisions to protect their financial and medical interests. I can help establish guardianship when incapacity occurs. I am also able to represent clients in probate court to initiate a guardianship or conservatorship, if the physical or mental health of your loved one has already declined.

Elder Law

If you want to transfer your estate to your children but still live in your house for your remaining years, I can advise on a quit claim deed for gifting assets without violating federal rules or forfeiting your own rights. I also advise on eligibility for veterans benefits, many veterans do not realize they qualify for supplemental income.

Experience counts in probate law. Contact my Macon office to arrange a consultation.
